A vase, a cup, the trace of a hand. Learning to choose everyday objects with care.
A cup may catch your eye because of its colour and stay with you for a different reason: the way the handle fits your fingers, a satisfying weight, a surface that changes in the light. An object’s beauty can also be understood through use.
Looking at craft means paying attention to choices. A slightly uneven curve, a glaze gathering along an edge, a base left unpolished. Not every imperfection has value; the interesting question is whether a detail reveals a process and brings the object closer to everyday life.
In Italian, “fatto a mano” — made by hand — is a tangible expression. It points to time, skill and a person. Next time you visit a workshop, try asking: “Come viene realizzato?” — how is it made? That can begin a conversation more interesting than any label.
